Maddy went to sleep late for her nap and I had a VERY hard time waking her, so I let her sleep, then sleep some more. I finally shook her awake and she crawled in my lap to cuddle. I told her it was almost supper time and she looked outside and said in the most pitiful voice, "Oh no, it's almost dark. I didn't get to keep any daylight." Poor thing! So you can imagine my surprise and exhausted relief when three hours later I asked if she was ready to take a bath or go to bed, she said, "I'm ready for bed!" That's my girl!!

Granted I can still hear her talking, so who knows when she will fall asleep.  Last nite, when Stephen and I went to bed she was sound asleep in her bed, but she had made a bed on the floor and her light was on.  When I asked what happened she said she made a bed for Mannequin (her friend.)

Last week Stephen was driving Maddy to one of their dates.  He turned the music up really loud.  Maddy asked him to turn it down cause it was hurting the other cars' ears.

Yesterday on a date to Target and Starbucks, she asked to go to the car wash (which she always says she is afraid of; she hasn't been in one since she was about 1 - when she freaked out!).  They went through it and she said she wasn't scared, but the brushes hurt her ears.

At nap time, Stephen put her down and then she called out, "Daddy, DADDY!"  He went to her and she asked "Dad, why does R2-D2 not have eyes or a mouth?"  He replied, "He has speaker to make sounds and that big blue lens has a camera behind it so he can see. He also has many sensors to detecting the world around him."

I got a little cut on my toe and so when Maddy asked, I told her what happened.  No big deal; when I was at the AKA meeting, I tripped and caught my toe on the chair.  The next day, I told Maddy I was going to another meeting and she said, "Be careful, Mommy."  I must have looked puzzled, (which I was) because she said, "Don't trip like you did at your last meeting!"
Too smart!!!

Yesterday, Maddy had a cold and I was bummed because I didn't want to miss MOPS.  Stephen generously stayed with her so I could attend and hear the speaker on discipline.  I came home pumped and rejuvenated, ready to try some new strategies and methods.
At prayers last nite, I asked Maddy to say one thing she was thankful for.  She said she was thankful for her kitties.  But she was sad that they had to do up to heaven and be with God.

Maddy woke up with a swollen, red eye.  I asked if it hurt, itched or felt like something was in there.  She said it felt like something was in there.  I asked what, she said, "an eyeball."

Our girl

We try to pray together every nite and we usually say something about taking care of our baby-to-be, wherever it may be.  Tonite, Stephen got home late and he sat down to eat and asked us to pray with him.  We said grace together then Maddy asked her Daddy to pray for the baby, like this "Dear God, please take care of the baby, keep the baby toasty oasty roasty and cozy in the belly.  Take care of the momma and make sure she doesn't cry.  And if she needs anything she can ask God for help."

Maddy asked me one day what made me cry and I said different things.  I asked her what made her cry and she said,

One day we were talking about dragons and how they are make-believe and no reason to be scared.  I said, "you know, like how we pretend kitties talk?"  She looked at me like I dropped a bomb on her and said, "Kitties talk. I can understand them.  All the time."

Random quotes:
"Mommy, let's make sure our baby boy or girl doesn't eat a lot of candy so her teeth don't rot out."
"When we get our baby, I will go to work like Daddy and be grown-up and you and the baby can stay home and be Mommys.  Then we will have 2 daddys, 2 mommys and 2 sisters."
"I don't want a brother or a sister, I want a baby boy or girl."
"I am getting ready for the baby.  I put out diapers, blankets, a play mat and I have a pack and play for it."

Last nite, Maddy asked her Daddy to help her and he turned around and knocked her into the cupboard and she hurt her foot.  She doesn't usually cry, so when she began crying immediately, we knew it hurt.  He went to comfort her and she looked at me and said, "Mommy, Daddy hurted me."  Oh, it was so sad, Stephen felt so bad.   She got a little red spot on her foot and she told him, "Daddy, you cut me."  It didn't break the skin, but she wanted a band aid and ice.  Two minutes later she was fine:  )

So the other morning Maddy pops up out of her crib and tells me she wants me to wash her pajama bottoms hand to hand.  I was surprised and asked why.  She told me about a hole I have in a shirt and one Stephen has in his shirt, so she thinks its best not to do hers in the machine!!

In the store today Maddy informed me that she didn't like those boys (mannequins).  I told her that was ok, she didn't know them, so she didn't need to talk to them or look at them.  She then told a clerk on the floor and at the register in that store, a clerk in another store and finally Haven, that she didn't like those boys.  Poor people had no idea what she was talking about as she goes on about how she doesn't know them and she didn't need to talk to them!

When we left PT, Maddy asked me if the people in the waiting room prayed for her when she was in the hospital (3 months ago:  ).  I just kind of mumbled over that, not wanting to lie.  When Haven got here, Maddy ran out and grabbed her hand to bring her in and asked her if she prayed for her when she was in the hospital.  Haven said yes and shrugged.  We don't want to lie, but if Haven had known about Maddy's surgery she would have prayed for her!!

Tonite, I was on the phone with Sheila and Maddy had to go potty.  So, I wiped her and went into the family room to continue the conversation and Maddy played with her dolls.  I happen to glance over and see her standing in her potty.  I think to myself that I pray I emptied it, but I know with a sinking feeling that I didn't.  Sure enough there are pee pee tracks all around the kitchen.  And she shows me where she dipped some papers in pee pee too.  UGH!!  I picked her up and put her in the sink and washed her feet, legs, hands and arms.  Then I put her on a rug and told her to stay there while I emptied the pot and washed the floor.  I turned around to see her walking on the wet floor and as I started to tell her to go back, whoosh she falls on her butt and starts wailing.  Oh my heart just broke.  I started to cry as I picked her up.  I felt soooo bad for her.  So I carried her and lovey to the sofa and covered her and went to get her a drink.  As I walked away, she asks me, in between sobs, to get the butterfly one (blanket) too.  I knew she would be ok.  And she stopped crying in 2 seconds!!

Poop

Well, potty training is going much better.  We have had 3 days of no accidents.  Although today was not good.  We started swim lessons, went into the YMCA so she could play and I could work out.  Then met Heather and girls at Chi-fil-a.  I could see Maddy grabbing onto some boys (surprise) so I went in to tell her to stop and she says, "Mommy, I peed."  Sure enough, all over the rubber floor, her socks, etc...soaking wet.  So I told the worker and she said they can't pull the floor up, so we just patted it dry and I changed Maddy.
Tonite, Judy, next door neighbor came over and we were standing outside, talking while Maddy danced around with the American Flag, saying the ABC's and talking about the United States of America.  And I look and see her standing in a big puddle on the sidewalk.  ARGH!  She was doing so well.  I explained it was ok and that she just needed to let me know.
Later, she says she needs to poop.    She sits down and starts talking about how the daddy is coming out first.  (she says it hurts, poor thing.) "Here he comes, the daddy and the baby is right behind him.  No, the baby doesn't want to come out yet, cause she is eating and has to take her plate to the sink.  No, she isn't coming out because she is still eating dinner with her mama."  A little time passes and she starts again..."Here she comes, she is taking her plate to the sink.  No, baby doesn't want to come out without Mama and there isn't enough space to come out."

I couldn't keep a straight face!!

Potty training sucks.  It is hard enough, but we have a very strong willed girl here.  We are giving skittles, smarties and m & m's for treats.  In between we have toys she can earn.  Sometimes she pulls her panties down and runs to the pot.  Other times, we ask her to try and she throws a fit and refuses.  So we set the timer and give her 2 or 3 more minutes, to appease her.  That almost always works.  IF we stick to the timer.  Otherwise, I hear, "Mommy, I am peeing."  And sure enough there is a huge puddle around her.  How she holds that much in there, I have no idea!!!
Then yesterday, I come home from church and Stephen asks me if I made a deal with Maddy: 2 M & M's for every mosquito bite she has. (she has a ton!!) I start laughing; of course I never made that deal. Silly girl!!  She is too smart!!

Why didn't you carry me?

July 7, 2012
Again, it takes me forever to figure out how to post on here.  I need to do it more regularly!!!
So, a couple of nites ago, Maddy was in the tub and I was sitting beside the tub and she asks, "Why don't you know how to carry babies?"  And I tell her I do know; and I show her how to hold a tiny baby."  After a lot of stumbling, she finally gets out, "NO, why didn't you know how to carry me in your belly?"  Whoooosh, a big ol hit to the gut.  Was not expecting that quite so soon.  Not sure why, but it brought tears to my eyes; I think I felt like she was accusing me of letting her down.  I gathered myself and told her that God made that decision and that he chose Amy to help us build our family.  I explained that Amy couldn't take care of another baby so she asked us if we would do it.  And I explained how grateful we all are.  She apparently is not listening, because she says, "And where is my boy?"  Again, a lot of stumbling later, she gets out, "which boy made me?"  I tell her his name is Elijah and I change the subject.  This little girl is on the ball!!!

Other news, we started potty training (again) yesterday and she actually pooped in the potty!!!  We are sooo proud of her.  Day 2 is going ok. She is stubborn!!

Catching up

It took me forever to find the blog, then longer to figure out how to post to it.  Now I can't remember what I was going to write.  It's 3 AM and Maddy and I are both coughing.  She just had her adenoids out and tubes in over a week ago, so we had hoped that was the end of the snotty nose.  Poor baby.  She kept coughing so Stephen went in and she was sitting up, so he brought her to our bed.  She immediately reached for my iPad and tried to play Scrabble.  Then she closed it and found Angry Birds.  She said she didn't know how to do it and Stephen said there were lots I hadn't played yet.  I said that I had stopped playing it and I didn't know how to play the new ones.  Maddy said, "I will show you.!"

We practiced breathing in the mask and told Maddy she would go to sleep for surgery.  What a trooper!  We woke her at 4:30 AM and I changed her diaper and she says, "What kind of diaper is that?"  (She always wants to know what kind of bubbles, broom, bread, whatever..."  Stephen carried her in her pjs and we waited til they called us back.  Maddy got a gown and played on the iPad while nurses and others came in.  When they came to walk her back, Maddy took the nurses hand and calmly walked with her.   We were amazed; couldn't believe she didn't cry!!  After surgery, I went in and she was thrashing and crying.  Apparently they forgot to tell us that kids often are delirious after surgery and don't understand they are coming out of anesthesia.  When Stephen walked in, Maddy and I were both crying, she in pain and confusion, me in frustration about not being able to help my baby girl.  She finally settled and was still a bit out of it.  We brought her home and she took a 1/2 hour nap and then that was it.  She didn't want to avoid any foods or activities!  Her teacher brought her 2 baby doll bottles (that she said Maddy loves to play with at school.)  It was soooo sweet of her to stop by.  Miss Barbara had her 2 boys in the car so Maddy got to meet them...a highlight for her:  )

So we are trying to potty train Maddy. In the past she has actually busted out the beads from the diaper cause it is so full. So at nite, I tell her to go before bed so she won't have the beads come out. So she went potty last nite (YEAH!!) At 5 am, I hear, "Mommy I have beads on my belly!" Sure enough diaper is busting out. I tried to strip her in the crib, but she didn't want to put her bare foot down (she had on her footed pdjamas). So I pick her up and she says, "Don't forget my people." (stuffed animals in the bed.) Then she says, "Mommy, take me a bath!" So I carry her to met bed, as I strip her and go back and strip her sheets and put on new ones. Then I put her in the tub and she sits and I was her off and she says there are still beads on her belly, so I scrub away the now invisible beads and get her out to dry her off and poor thing is shaking like a leaf. I tell her I can put her in my bed and she says, there are beads there. So I put a towel down and we snuggle for a bit then I put her in her bed. I stayed a bit to settle her and as I turn her music on, she says, "That is Daddy/Maddy lullabies and we love them." She asks the name of the song, "Somewhere over the rainbow," I tell her and she says, "Daddy knows that one!! I know Butterfly kisses and Before I knew your name." I don't know the names of the other ones, but Daddy does. He knows them all.

Marry Andrew

Driving in the car today we were talking about when Maddy's bday is...3 days! She asked who else has a birthday? I told her Valentine's was next, then Mommy and Daddy's anniversary would be celebrated. She asked if she could come to and I said yes. I told her I was married to her Daddy. She said she was going to marry Andrew (Godmother Amie Chase's son) and that Katherine (Godmother's daughter) going to marry them. She said who would marry me? I told her I was already married to her daddy. Again, she said she would marry Andrew. I asked her if Andrew already knew it and she said yes.

So Maddy is singing a song and I thought I recognized the tune, but not quite sure since I didn't recognize the words: "Attention, attention, we all fall down!"

Driving in the car the other nite, Stephen and I heard Maddy say, "What the hell?" We looked at each other, then at Maddy and asked what she said. When she repeated it, over and over realized she was talking about a HILL!

After picking her up at Jan's house, Maddy told us that she "laid on the doggies." We asked how they liked it. She said, "I tried to hug them, but the didn't let me."

Maddy likes me to tell her stories. If I don't start correctly, she stops me and says, "No Mommy, Once upon a time..."

So I asked her to tell me a story and she says, "Once upon a time, there was a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny punkin. And there was a daddy punkin and a mommy punkin..." And then she kind of lost interest in her own story.

So Maddy is sitting on her potty in my bathroom and she reaches into my toilet room and says she needs a magazine. I told her she didn't need one because she wouldn't be there that long. She got up anyway and got a Reader's Digest. She flipped thru it and then said. I don't like this one. I need another one.

While we are in the car we take turns listening to Maddy music and Mommy music. I try to find a song I really like and will flip thru to get a good one. Maddy has started to say, "No, not this one." or "This is a good one."

Today I thanked Maddy for having such a great day at school today. She hugged me and said, "You're so welcome, Mommy!"
